Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards fined $100,000 for using profanity during postgame interview

If we calculate, the NBA collected a $235,000 fine from Edwards this season in only two months.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been fined $100,000 for profane language during a live television interview following the team’s win against the Houston Rockets. Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President and head of Basketball Operations in NBA, announced the fine after monitoring the history of using profane language in media interviews.

Edwards used profane language during an on-court interview on Dec. 27 at Toyota Center. Minnesota Timberwolves rallied a comeback after a 16-point deficit. Anthony Edwards led a 23-6 run in the final quarter and scored a game-winning three-point shot with 24 seconds left.

The 23-year-old shooting-guard finished with 24 points, five rebounds and three assists on 9-for-17 shooting from the floor. Anthony Edwards is averaging 24.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game on shotting 44% field goals.

Edwards said the following during the postgame interview on Friday: “We made it happen. We got some stops. We made some big shots, and we made a big shot at the end right there. All I knew was, the play was for [Randle] to go… big-small pick-and-roll, once he picked it up, I mean, who else? I got to go get it, s. And [Nickeil Alexander-Walker] found me, I’m like, ‘s, I’m going for the win.’ Like Gilbert Arenas said, ‘I don’t do overtime,’ so f*** it.”

Anthony Edwards has a rich history of getting fines from the NBA. In the regular season 2024-25, the 23-year-old faced the consequences four times and this year, he has been fined five times. If we calculate, the NBA collected a $235,000 fine from Edwards this season in only two months.

Minnesota guard was fined $75,000 last week for public criticism of the officiating. On Dec 6, the Timberwolves star was fined $25,000 for using profane language after the game against Golden State Warriors at Chase Center. NBA handed a $35,000 fine last month for making obscene gesture towards Sacramento Kings fans.
