Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations issued the fine after watching the incident during the game. As per the NBA, the incident happened with 3:15 remaining in the first quarter. Edwards was called for an offensive foul and cameras captured him making the gesture towards the stands while walking to the bench.
Edwards scored 36 points against the Kings in reply to De’Aaron Fox’s NBA season-high 60 points. NBA announced the fine on Sunday and it wasn’t the first time the Minnesota guard was punished with a fine. Anthony Edwards was fined in January for repeatedly publicly criticizing the officiating and it was worth $40,000 during the win against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The NBA also fined Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball $100,000 for using “offensive and derogatory” language during a postgame TV interview. The game also ended with controversy for defending the last shot against Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Hornets’ razor-thin margin of one-point win against the Bucks on Saturday. Brooklyn Nets point guard, Cam Thomas was also fined $40,000 last season for using a similar comment during a post-game interview.
LaMelo Ball was talking to the NBA sidelines reporter Shannon Spake and he was asked about Charlotte’s defensive strategy in the final play of the game. Ball used offensive language in reply. “We loaded up — no h***. That’s what we wanted, put a hand up and then live with the results,” Ball said.

Charlotte coach Charles Lee couldn’t defend his player and said Ball was “very apologetic.” “As an organization, that is obviously not something we condone. Our standards and what is required of our players in the environment we create is really important to us,” said Charlotte’s coach during the postgame press conference.
