2025 NBA All-Star: Format, prize money & everything you need to know

The NBA All-Star Game will have an updated version in 2025 as the league announced a new mini-tournament format. Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith will draft All-Star squads to join the Rising Stars game-winner. The new format will feature three games and four teams.

What’s the new format for NBA All-Star 2025?

The NBA and National Basketball Players Association confirmed the change to next edition of All-Star game. It was already in the plan, which the NBA had earlier proposed. It will be a mini-tournament and all games will be played to a target score of 40 points.

Each team will be headed by four general managers, Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Candace. The first three managers will have the right to pick NBA all-star players while Candace will run a team consisting of the rising stars in the league. Each team will consist of eight players.

First-year and second-year NBA and developmental G-League talent will take part in the Rising Stars game and will qualify for the Sunday event. NBA All-Star 2025 will feature two semifinals, and the winners will advance to the championship contest.

All-Star draft and voting

The Rising Stars squad will be known as Team Candace for WNBA legend Candace Parker. 24 All-Stars will be divided into three teams, Team Chuck, Team Shaq and Team Kenny. The All-Star draft will be held on Feb. 6.

The voting process will be the same for All-Star players. The fan voting count will be 50% and 25% each will go to current NBA players and a media panel. NBA coaches will get the right to pick reserve players.

The coaching staffs of the teams with the best record in the Eastern and Western conferences will be given preferences to serve as All-Star Game coaches. NBA All-Star voting will begin on December 19 and will conclude on January 20.

NBA have announced a prize pool of $1.8 million and it will be divided like this:

$125,000 for each member of the winning side
$50,000 for each member of the runner-up side
$25,000 each for the semifinal losers
