The All-Star Game is scheduled for February 16 at San Francisco's Chase Center.
As per reports, the NBA is willing to change the format of the All-Star game ahead of the 2025 event which is scheduled to be held in February. The league is looking to discuss a new tournament-style format for the NBA All-Star game 2025.
ESPN’s Shams Charania confirmed through sources that the NBA is in the mood to have a serious talk in San Francisco regarding the new format. Sources claim that the new format will feature four teams for the first time. League officials discussed the concepts in a Competition Committee meeting on Friday.
This new format will include the 8-player squads of All-Stars and the winning team from the Rising Stars game. The Rising Stars game will be played on the Friday of All-Star Weekend. Four teams of eight players will compete in a two-stage elimination mini-tournament.
We can now simply understand this format through an example. Team A faces Team C and Team B plays against Team D then the winner of both games will reach the finals. All-Star Sunday will feature these two games and the winning squads will advance to a final. The All-Star Game is scheduled for February 16 at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

A blueprint of the new format has been planned after taking the right inputs from star players including Warriors star Steph Curry. The discussion led to positive feedback and the NBA will soon come up with an updated version of the All-Star game. The upcoming All-Star Weekend will also feature a shooting contest between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu.
Meanwhile, NBA recalled the previous traditional East versus West format last season. It replaced the draft version where captains would select from the entire pool of All-Stars. This format didn’t impress much as it demanded a change. East overcame West 211-186 in the highest-scoring All-Star Game of all time.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the previous format. “I think there’s no doubt that the players were disappointed as well in last year’s All-Star Game,” He said earlier this month. “We all want to do a better job providing competition and entertainment for our fans.”
