LeBron James is playing his 22nd season and still achieving career-first for fun.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is chasing records in the final phase of his career. In his 22nd NBA season, he set a new NBA record during the opening group play NBA Cup game against the Spurs. The veteran guard led the Lakers to a 115-120 win on Friday night.
LeBron James achieved a career first when he scored his fourth straight triple-double against the Spurs. The 39-year-old guard completed this achievement in the third quarter of the game in San Antonio. He hit triples-doubles against the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies. His champion approach helped the Lakers to secure wins in all four games.
For the first time in his career, LeBron James put up a triple-double in four consecutive games.

LeBron James will turn 40 next month and 2025-26 could be his final season. He has achieved everything in his career. Last year, the King broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 points record and in March 2024, he became the first player in NBA history to cross 40,000 regular-season career points.
LeBron James scored his 117th triple-double of his career. He is still behind in the all-time triple-double scorers. He ranks fifth behind Russell Westbrook, Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson and Nikola Jokic for the all-time lead. The most triple-doubles LeBron James has ever scored in a season is 18 during the 2017-18 campaign.

The NBA superstar already hinted about the retirement by saying that he is “not going to play that much longer” because he doesn’t like the idea of “playing until the wheels fall off.” LeBron James would look to extend this streak to five matches when the Lakers will face the Pelicans on the road. Meanwhile, Westbrook has the record of scoring the most consecutive triple-doubles in MBA history. He recorded triple-doubles in 10 straight games in 2019.
Anthony Davis was the actual hero for the Lakers to end their losing streak on the road. He scored 40 points with 12 rebounds in a matchup with Victor Wembanyama. Davies shot 14-for-26 from the floor and made 10-of-12 free throws. Meanwhile, Wembanyama paced the Spurs with 28 points and 14 rebounds.
