Maverick vs. Jazz: Luka Doncic’s defensive blunder hands Mavericks their 4th consecutive defeat

Luka Doncic's defensive lapse at the dying moments of the game led to John Collin's game-winning dunk.

Last season’s runners-up Dallas Mavericks have had a rocky start to their season, winning just 5 games in their first 12 games. They suffered their fourth straight loss on Thursday after Jazz secured a nail-biter at Delta Center.

Jazz, who came into this game with a 2-8 record, kept the Mavs on the hooks throughout the game. With just 6.4 seconds left on the clock, Doncic made a horror defensive blunder which allowed John Collins to sink a game-winning dunk and a 115-113 win.

Collins finished the game with 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Luka Doncic led the Mavericks offense with an impressive performance, scoring 37 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and dishing out 9 assists. However, his defensive vulnerabilities were visible throughout the game which eventually cost them the game.

“That’s on me” – Luka Doncic takes the blame for Mavericks’ loss

After the game, Luka took responsibility for a defensive breakdown that led to Collins’ go-ahead dunk.

“It was a misunderstanding. I thought I was going to go hit, and Grimes thought he was going to go hit. And it was a lob, so we misunderstood the bench. That’s on me”, the Mavericks star said after the game.

Mavericks will now return to Dallas for a crucial game against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, November 16.
