Arsenal’s imperious run of form came to a halt as Sunderland produced a stirring late show to secure a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light. The Gunners were moments away from sealing their 11th straight win in all competitions. That is, before substitute Brian Brobbey’s stoppage-time heroics.
That goal denied the Gunners maximum points. Regis Le Bris’ side showed why they have been one of the Premier League’s surprise packages this season. Sunderland matched Arsenal’s intensity early on and took a deserved lead in the 36th minute through defender Dan Ballard.

He won possession before Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino combined to find Bukayo Saka. He drilled home the equaliser. Arsenal then seemed to have turned the tide completely when Leandro Trossard cut in from the left to unleash a thunderous strike past Robin Roefs in the 74th minute. The stadium erupted as the home crowd celebrated a point that felt like a win. Ballard’s contribution didn’t end there. He produced a crucial last-ditch block moments later to deny Merino from close range and preserve the draw.
