Real Madrid’s search for their next midfield orchestrator has led them to Merseyside. And in that search, Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as one of their top targets. The Argentine World Cup winner has been a vital cog in Arne Slot’s side.
Reportedly, the former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso admires the Argentine. Yet, despite Madrid’s interest, there remains uncertainty over whether the 26-year-old is willing to leave Anfield anytime soon. Real Madrid have some excellent players in their midfield already.

“I read the rumours, but that’s all they were. There was no contact. It’s always nice when my son is linked with the biggest clubs in the world. Real Madrid is a very big club, but so is Liverpool.”

Even so, reportedly, Alonso views Mac Allister as an ideal candidate to anchor the next phase of the club’s search for improvement in the engine room. Mac Allister is a technically gifted, press-resistant midfielder. He is capable of dictating tempo and contributing to goals.
His header against Madrid in Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win only strengthened their admiration. According to multiple reports, Alonso has urged Real Madrid’s hierarchy to explore a possible move. However, Liverpool have made it clear they are not entertaining offers.

The Reds invested heavily to sign the Argentine from Brighton in 2023. They see him as indispensable to their plans. Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke noted that Madrid’s interest is genuine. However, there has been ‘no contact’ between the two clubs. He added that “Mac Allister remains happy at Liverpool with no intention to move.”
Amid swirling speculation, both the player and his family have maintained calm. Carlos Mac Allister, his father and agent, acknowledged Madrid’s stature but emphasized respect for Liverpool. He told Liverpool Echo: “Real Madrid is a very big club, but so is Liverpool.

He added, “There was no contact. If an opportunity arises in the future, he’ll decide what’s best for him.” That measured tone shows that Mac Allister is only focused on Liverpool’s ambitions rather than transfer noise. They’ve already lifted domestic silverware.
They’ve also earned admiration across Europe. Hence, he has no reason to push for an exit mid-project. As per multiple reports, both parties are content for now. For Madrid, the chase may continue quietly in the background. But unless the midfielder’s stance changes, the Spanish giants will have to look elsewhere.
