Taysom Hill may have played his last game as a Saint
The New Orleans Saints have quite a few decisions to make this offseason. One of those decisions involves their eight-year veteran tight end Taysom Hill whom they signed in 2017. Hill, who could have actually been much more of an asset with dual capabilities that enabled him to play both as a quarterback and as a tight end, was never able to make it count.
Hailing from Idaho, Hill played his collegiate football for the BYU Cougars. After going undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Green Bay Packers before he was waived, following which he was signed by the Saints. Overall, through his eight seasons in the league, Hill has thrown for 2,348 yards, rushed for 2,159 yards, and has 756 yards receiving. However, his TD-INT ratio stands at a disappointing 11-8.
Unfortunately for Hill and the Saints, it is looking like this is the end of the road of their partnership and Hill may be let go this offseason.
Although it is not certain, there is a strong possibility that the Saints are looking to offload their tight end Tayson Hill this offseason. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who spoke on the NFL network, “They have a decision coming on Taysom Hill…hard to imagine he’d be back in New Orleans, but I guess anything is possible.”
The Saints are facing some very important questions in the upcoming months considering the fact that they are nearly $54 million over the cap, as per Over the Cap. At the moment, Hill will account for nearly $18 million against the team’s cap which puts him third on the entire roster. If New Orleans releases him post June 01, the Saints could potentially save up to $10 million. If the Saints do want to keep Hill, their best bet would be to restructure his deal and work out several other moves to get themselves back under the cap for the upcoming season.

Another reason the Saints may be potentially interested in letting go of Hill is the injury he suffered last season. He suffered a torn ACL in the Saints’ week 13 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Even though he will have the entire offseason to recover, Hill will be turning 35 years old before the 2025 season starts.
Given all the factors such as age, injury, and the Saints’ financial situation, it would make much sense for New Orleans to move on from Hill and use that money to add depth to their receiver room.
