What will the Titans do with their number 1 overall pick heading into the draft
The Tennessee Titans finished their 2024 season with a 3-14 record which was the worst in the league. Even though the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants finished with the same record, the Titans received the number one overall pick based on the strength of the schedule.
The number one overall pick is generally considered to be a big deal during the draft as the team selecting has the opportunity to select the best player suitable to their needs without having to rely on the other teams’ decisions.
Tennessee made several key changes to their roster last season with the biggest one being letting go of their star running back Derrick Henry. Although that move may have raised quite a few eyebrows, the Titans added prominent pieces to their team including wide receivers Tyler Boyd, and Calvin Ridley, running back Tony Pollard, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, and others. In spite of big-name signings, Tennessee’s season was a total bust and they now need to make another overhaul to their roster for the upcoming season.
Generally, more often than not, teams with the number 1 pick are looking for their next franchise quarterback. However, at times, the draft is not considered to be a great draft class for specific positions, especially the quarterback. Teams can then decide to draft a player for another position or trade away their pick and gain much more in terms of future draft picks for multiple years down the line.
The news about the Titans’s possibly trading their number one overall pick was broken by NFL insider, Ian Rapaport on the NFL Network by reporting: “While it’s early in the process, Tennessee has an open mind with the first pick, sources say. All options are on the table, including possibly trading the pick, and the Titans are expected to receive calls from other teams.”

At present, it seems like quarterbacks Cam Ward who played for the Miami Hurricanes in 2024 and Shedeur Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes are in contention for the first two picks in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. However, barring these two, this year’s draft class is considered to be on the weaker side. If the Titans are not completely sold on either Ward or Sanders, they may decide to drop down the order and gain some valuable picks from another team.
Currently, the Titans starting quarterback is Will Levis whom they drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Tennessee believed he would be their franchise quarterback, but things have not gone so well for them with Levis under center.
It will be a monumental decision for the Titans, but if they wish to stick with Levis, they could select Travis Hunter who won the Heisman Trophy last season playing the dual role of wide receiver and cornerback.
If, however, Tennessee does decide to drop down for more draft capital or even a player trade in addition to draft capital, the possible suitors for the number one pick could be the Giants, Jets, and Raiders.
The Giants, who also finished 3-14 are in dire need of a franchise quarterback. Having moved on from Daniel Jones in the middle of last season, they now have Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, and Tim Boyle on the roster, none of whom look like they can turn this franchise around. The Giants may consider moving up from the number 3 spot to draft either Ward or Sanders.

The other New York-based team, the Jets, are also in a similar situation. Although they had four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers under center, his two seasons in New York didn’t have any positive impact on the organization in terms of success. As a result of which, the Jets have decided to move on from Rodgers and will now need to decide on who their new signal caller will be going forward.
The Raiders could also be eyeing a move up for a quarterback as they currently have Gardner Minshew and Aiden O’Connell. It seems unlikely that either of them can lead Vegas in the right direction.

It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unites and entertains like nothing else!
