The Phoenix Mercury acquired Dallas Wings’ forward Satou Sabally in a three-team trade. As per ESPN’s Kendra Andrews and Alexa Philippou, they will part ways with veteran forward Sophie Cunningham. Earlier, the Phoenix reportedly acquired five-time All-Star forward Alyssa Thomas in a trade with the Connecticut Sun.
Thomas will move from the team as their career leader with 319 games played, 1463 assists, 494 steals, 2396 rebounds, 1502 field goals made and 884 free throws. Not only this, but she has also been the WNBA’s all-time triple-double leader.
They will let go of guards like Natasha Cloud and Rebecca Allen as well as the 12th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft to get Alyssa and Ty Harris. However, soon after the deal, things started to sizzle up in Phoenix again as they landed Sabally in a three-team trade which also involved Indiana Fever.

As per the reports, Mercury will get former No. 2 pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft Sabally, Kalani Brown and Sevgi Uzun from Dallas. The Wings will get Ty Harris and Kiki Herbert Harrigan from the Mercury while NaLyssa Smith and the No. 8 overall draft pick from the Indiana Fever. On the other hand, the Fever will acquire the likes of Cunningham and Phoenix’s second-round pick.

It came after the two-time WNBA All-Star told Wings that she didn’t want to play anymore for them.
Sabally confirmed finding a new home in the WNBA by dropping a two-word reaction to the three-team deal.
Sabally took to Instagram Story to write, “New beginnings,” shortly after the trade was announced.
She played college basketball at Oregon. She had a breakout season in 2023, where she picked up her second All-Star spot and became the WNBA’s Most Improved Player Award. However, she only played 15 games last season after she injured her shoulder while playing for Germany’s team.
In 2024, she averaged at 17.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and five assists. The Wings slumped to a 9-31 record and were kicked out of the playoffs race for the first time since 2020.
