NHL Trade Rumors – Islanders, Rangers, and Minnesota Wild Among Teams Exploring Trades

Devavrat Kulkarni

Despite the Stanley Cup Final coming to an end, the NHL is still abuzz with plenty of excitement over teams and their potential trade rumors. As each franchise looks to assemble the best possible roster in the offseason, free agency, trades, and the upcoming NHL Draft will all play an important role before the start of the new season.

As such, trade rumors are quite common at this time of the year, and there is plenty of speculation in the league. According to NHL insiders, both New York-based franchises, the Islanders and Rangers, along with the Minnesota Wild, have been linked with trades.

Islanders in Talks With Bruins

The New York Islanders and the Boston Bruins have been linked heavily over the past couple of days. It has come to light that New York has offered its center, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, to Boston, but what they want in return is the number seven overall pick, which is currently held by the Bruins.

As per reports, the Bruins are looking to add quality pieces to their roster on both offense and defense. If they can get a top-four defenseman or a top-six forward, they could be willing to part ways with the seventh overall pick. However, it would take a lot more than just Pageau from the Islanders.

Thus, reports indicate that the names of Alexander Romanov and Noah Dobson have also been floated around in this deal. If the Islanders can pull off a trade with a team drafting high, they will be looking at adding center James Hagens with their second pick, while selecting Matthew Schaeffer first overall.

Rangers Look Poised for a Big Offseason

Less than two weeks ago, the New York Rangers moved on from longtime veteran forward Chris Kreider, shipping him off to the Anaheim Ducks. But the Rangers may not be done yet, as they might be looking to offload defender K’Andre Miller as well.

According to reports, Miller is the favorite to follow Kreider out of New York, although neither head coach Mike Sullivan nor general manager Chris Drury has shed any light on the matter. However, NHL insider Frank Seravalli believes that Sullivan would look to move on from Miller in a bid to rebuild the Rangers’ defense.

Additionally, as per Rangers reporter Vince Mercogliano, New York is also linked with Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche forwards Jason Robertson and Martin Necas respectively. If all these rumors are true, the Rangers look to be one of the busier franchises in the league at the moment.

Marco Rossi Might Be on the Move

For Minnesota Wild fans who were hopeful of seeing more from their talented youngster, Marco Rossi, following a career-best 60-point performance this season, there might be some troubling news.

As per NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Wild will only entertain a trade for Rossi if it helps the team on an immediate basis and not in the future. The Buffalo Sabres have come up as potential suitors for Rossi, especially since they are willing to trade their players, such as JJ Peterka and Bowen Byram.

If the Wild are open to trading Rossi, he might draw interest from other teams like the  Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Calgary Flames who have been linked with the player earlier.

Judging from everything that is going on, it is safe to say that the NHL’s offseason may have started, but there is still plenty of news to keep tabs on. As the draft approaches in just a few days, we could start seeing more trades taking place very soon.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
