A possible big trade between the Bruins and Islanders is in play
The NHL is moving swiftly into the offseason as teams scramble for potential trade opportunities ahead of the upcoming NHL Entry Draft scheduled for the end of this week. As per several reports, some serious trade discussions between the Boston Bruins and the New York Islanders have been taking place.
As per the news floating around, the Bruins are looking to add a top-six forward and a top-four defenseman to their roster in the interest of assembling a winning roster right now, instead of adding more talent from the draft. Currently, the Bruins hold the number seven overall pick, and as per reports, Boston could be ready to move from that spot should they receive quality players on both sides.

James Murphy and Stefan Rosney from RG Media reported the Islanders are in trade discussions with the Bruins for New York center Jean-Gabriel Pageau as part of the deal. However, the Bruins were not happy with potentially landing just Pageau in the deal, and more pieces are expected to be added.
Pageau is a player who is seen mostly as a bottom-six forward, and that means he would not be able to solve the Bruins’ needs, per se. What Pageau would bring to Boston is added depth and experience, but nothing more than that.
Sources seem to suggest that the Bruins’ seventh overall pick could also be in play in the trade. However, there are also reports going around that the Bruins have discussed moving their first-round draft pick with more teams and have not limited it to just the Islanders.

Latest reports now indicate that other players, such as defensemen Noah Dobson and Alexander Romanov, are also in the mix for a trade. Although there is no certainty, the latest rumors indicate that further development in trade discussions has revealed these two names.

The problem with Romanov is that he won’t be able to provide anything on offense for the Bruins. He is a solid defender who can throw his body around. Having said that, the Bruins don’t really need another left-handed defender, so Romanov doesn’t make much sense.
Looking at Dobson, this is the player with the most upside for Boston should he be traded. Dobson has had one of his better seasons this past year and is one of the more dependable players on the team.

Again, all of this is still plenty of speculation with no concrete information coming out. It is expected that more rumors may do the rounds until the draft if things do not get finalized quickly. However, if New York and Boston are truly in serious discussions, there might be a trade being announced very soon.
