The Montreal Canadiens have a plethora of picks in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft
Looking ahead at the NHL offseason now that the Stanley Cup Final is over, the first big event is the 2025 NHL Entry Draft that is set to take place on Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28.
The excitement is already building as the new stars of hockey get ready to hear their name being called on draft day, and with it, realize a childhood dream of being able to play in the NHL.
This year’s draft will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, with round 1 happening on Friday, June 27 at 7:00 PM ET, and rounds 2-7 taking place on Saturday from noon ET. With that, let us now take a look at how many picks each NHL team holds this time around.
The 2025 NHL Entry Draft consists of 7 rounds with a grand total of 224 picks. The New York Islanders and the Utah Mammoth won the draft lotteries and will be selecting number 1 and number 4 overall. The table below gives the total number of draft picks each team holds.

There are several teams with a high number of draft picks in this year’s NHL Entry Draft. However, the Montreal Canadiens lead all teams with a total of 12 draft picks. Followed by the Canadiens, the Philadelphia Flyers hold the second most number of picks with 11, while the Sabres, Blackhawks, and Penguins each have 10.

The Colorado Avalanche head into this year’s draft with the fewest number of picks. They have only 2 picks from the 7-round event. Their first pick is in the 4th round at 118th overall, while their second pick is in round 7 at 214th overall. Stanley Cup runners-up, the Edmonton Oilers and the St. Louis Blues are next with 3 picks each.
