Ray Spalding
Ray Spalding was born on March 11, 1997, in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. He is the son of Raymond Brooks and Gerri Spalding. He has an older sister, Maya Spalding, and two younger brothers, Jayden Spalding and James Wright. During his childhood, he participated in various sports, including lacrosse, soccer, kickball, table tennis, fencing, and basketball. He attended Trinity High School in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was coached by Mike Szabo.
Spalding played college basketball for the Louisville Cardinals from 2015 to 2018. During his college career, he achieved a field goal percentage (FG%) of .560 in 2015-16, .590 in 2016-17, and .543 in 2017-18, with a career FG% of .557. His free throw percentage (FT%) was .500 in 2015-16, .545 in 2016-17, and .640 in 2017-18, with a career FT% of .579. His three-point percentage (3P%) was .333 in 2015-16, .000 in 2016-17, and .263 in 2017-18, with a career 3P% of .240. He led the Louisville team to a 22-14 season and the NIT quarterfinals, earning an Honorable Mention on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection.
In 2018, after his junior year, Spalding entered the NBA draft and hired an agent, foregoing his final season at Louisville. He was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round, as the 26th pick (56th overall) of the 2018 NBA Draft. After the draft, he began his professional career, which included stints with several teams.
Throughout his professional career, Spalding has been involved in various team movements. After being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers, he was with the Dallas Mavericks from 2018 to 2019. In 2021, he was with the Houston Rockets and was converted to a two-way contract after playing with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League. He also played for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers from 2022 to 2024 and for the Osos de Manatí in 2024. Most recently, on October 18, 2025, Spalding signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Indiana Pacers. He has also played internationally, with Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. Spalding, who is 2.06 m (6 feet 9 inches) tall and weighs 102 kg (225 pounds), primarily plays as a power forward.
