Jock Landale is an Australian professional basketball player. He was born on October 25, 1995, in Malvern, Victoria, Australia. Landale played college basketball at Saint Mary’s College of California from 2014 to 2018. During his time with the Gaels, he steadily improved, culminating in a dominant senior season. In his final year (2017-2018), he averaged 21.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, earning First-Team All-WCC honors and being named the WCC Player of the Year. He led Saint Mary’s to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 2017 and 2018. After his successful college career, Landale went undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft. Despite not being drafted, he began his professional career in Europe. He first played for Partizan Belgrade in Serbia (2018-2019) before moving to Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania (2019-2020), where he gained significant EuroLeague experience. He then played for Melbourne United in Australia’s NBL (2020-2021), where he had a breakout season, leading the team to the championship and being named the Grand Final MVP. His performance in the NBL attracted significant attention from NBA teams. In 2021, Landale signed with the San Antonio Spurs, marking his entry into the NBA. He played one season with the Spurs (2021-2022) before being traded to the Phoenix Suns. With the Suns (2022-2023), he served as a valuable backup center, providing energy, rebounding, and solid interior defense. His strong performance in Phoenix led to a multi-year contract with the Houston Rockets in the 2023 offseason. Throughout his career, Landale has been a consistent member of the Australian national basketball team, the Boomers. He has represented his country in various international competitions, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where he helped Australia win its first-ever Olympic medal in men’s basketball, a bronze. He is known for his versatility as a “big man,” possessing the ability to score in the paint, rebound effectively, and occasionally shoot from long range. Off the court, Landale is recognized for his strong work ethic and team-first attitude. He maintains a relatively private personal life, focusing on his basketball career. His journey from an undrafted college player to an impactful NBA contributor and an Olympic medalist showcases his dedication and perseverance in the sport.
