Max Verstappen is battling the threat of a race ban in June
The Max Verstappen- George Russell conflict is heating up badly in Formula 1. Unlike othe rivalries, this duo has been in spotlight for rather wrong reasons. More often than not, Verstappen and Russell clash. What proceeds is an entire week of blaming and sarcastic comments from either end.
Verstappen’s decision to crash into Russell was bound to bring repercussions. Once again, Russell was publicly shaming his actions in his interviews. And Max being his usual nonchalant self was evading them or answering back fiercely with remarks. But, with all his faults Russell is steal celan in front of the FIA. Whereas Max Verstappen is earning penalty points for his actions.

Verstappen’s reactions are causing detrimental effects to his image and his future in Formula 1. The driver is now on threshold of getting a race ban.
Max Verstappen has been collecting penalty points on his super license. He now has 11 points to his name. Verstappen’s two penalty points expire at the end of June 2025.
Until then, if Verstappen commits any more rash maneuvers, he will get a race ban. In 2024, Kevin Magnussen had to face a one race ban from the season due to his penalty points. Unlike Magnussen, Max Verstappen is fighting for s championship. He already went nose deep into trouble with loss points in Spain. If he gets a race ban, then he might as well give away the race championship to his rivals.
Christian Horner is usually supportive of his best driver. This time around, Horner had option but to rebuke Verstappen’s actions. He advised Max to “keep his nose clean” and get rid if the penalty points. If Red Bull loses him for a race, then can easily replace with a huge roster of drivers. It’s Verstappen who’s going to suffer from the race ban.

Max Verstappen was showing no signs of retreat initially. However, he finally subsided his anger and issued a public apology via his social media account.
“We had an exciting strategy and good race in Barcelona, the Safety Car came out. Our tyre choice at the end and some moves after the restart fuelled my frustration, leading to a move that was not right and shouldn’t have happened. I always give everything out there for the team and emotions can run high. You win some together, you lose some together. See you in Montreal.”
I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university's Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
