Martin Brundle advises Lando Norris to step up his game in the 2025 championship battle
The first half of the 2025 Formula 1 championship is nearing its end. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are the leading championship contenders since the start of the season. The previous race in Canada brought the two drivers to a devastating clash. In one of the most difficult weekends for McLaren this year, Lando Norris had a DNF and Piastri lost a podium finish.
While Oscar Piastri has been largely successful and dominant this season. The same can’t be said for his teammate Lando Norris. Norris is struggling to compete against his teammate and other championship rivals. After showing flashes of brilliance, Lando Norris ends back in a disappointment spree. The epitome of his desperate maneuvers came to a conclusion in Canada. In a bid to try and get get ahead of Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris ended up crashing into the back of his teammate and ending his race.
There’s no doubt that Lando Norris is slowly falling behind in the 2025 title race. He is nearly 22 points behind his teammate. Compared to him, his teammate is in a much better flow in the 2025 season. Norris’s performance lacks the same consistency that Oscar Piastri displays.
Lando Norris only has two wins in the 2025 championship. His last win came at Monaco. During the Monaco GP weekend, Norris looked absolutely phenomenal and did almost no mistakes. Brundle has pointed these issues in Lando’s performance. He advises Norris to minimise or eliminate the small errors that have been plaguing him.

“Lando won’t win a World Championship unless he can stop these weekends happening. It’s as simple as that. He’s got to bring his A-game pretty much all the time, like Max does. Oscar’s much more solid in his delivery week in, week out, much more consistent. I find it really confusing that those two different levels of performance. He needs to park one and deliver the other one more often, but there’s a long way to go.”
Martin Brundle isn’t too sure that Lando Norris has already lost the championship. However, going from the first race where he was the championship leader to getting 22 points behind his teammate, is big turnaround.
Brundle was full of praise for Piastri. The Aussie has been spectacularly consistent this year. He is currently the favorite driver for winning the world championship. It’s a fact that a clash between the McLarens was inevitable. But, the Canadian GP fiasco was pretty much avoidable. The drivers were not fighting for podiums but a fourth and fifth place finish. Ultimately, a wrong move hurt Norris worse than finishing the race behind his teammate would.
I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university's Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
