McLaren Releases Their View on Piastri-Norris Collision!

McLaren gives their views on how things will move going forward in the championship

Lando Norris crashing out is something noone had seen coming. The Briton has been fighting hard for the 2025 championship title with Oscar Piastri. He has been a clean racer so far with hardly any complaints for his team. After a brief lack of performance, Norris was starting to look better in the world championship. However, his comeback was short lived.

McLaren have the policy of not interfering between their driver battles. In 2025, both Norris and Piastri are driving to win a championship title. In the first few races, McLaren issued team orders to avoid any conflicts. However, during the Canadian GP, Norris and Piastri finally collided. The situation was terrible for Norris who had DNF. The Briton made a mistake under pressure trying to get better than his teammate in the championship standings.

McLaren Won’t Change Their Outlook Going Forward

After his collision, Norris did not try to create any further drama. He owned up to his mistakes and apologised over the team radio. Furthermore, Lando Norris went ahead and made things clear with his teammate. The whole situation was immediately buried and did not find a chance to escalate. Lando Norris is suffering a significant point deficit to Oscar Piastri now. But the crash has not hampered his dynamics with his teammate.

Andrea Stella, the team principal of McLaren, was strict about the situation. He did not like the fact Lando ended up crashing out. However, Stell also did not linger too long upon the fact and accepted the situation as is.

“It doesn’t change things because it’s a misjudgement. It’s not like the driver had an intent that was beyond the principles, it was just a misjudgement of the proximity to the car ahead. If Lando had a different reaction, then there would have been certainly serious conversations to have, but I think he immediately realised that he simply miscalculated, this caused a problem for himself, for the team, and it was very close to causing a problem for Oscar.”

Similarly, McLaren CEO Zak Brown showed his appreciation for Lando’s behaviour on his social media post.

As things stand currently, we should not expect McLaren to change their outlook towards their driver. The Papaya team refuses to prioritise any one of them over the other. The Canadian GP will be forgotten as a misjudgement from their driver. Norris and Piastri will once again get in a fight for championship. As long as they keep the racing clean and free of incidents, the two drivers can comfortably shoot for the 2025 title.
