The two McLarens finally collide but Lando Norris has calmed down the situation.
The Formula 1 world championship is getting more competitive. As the 2025 season reaches its halfway stage, the championship contenders are starting to make moves. The Canadian Grand Prix gave us our first battle for the championship. This time the Papaya boys did not hold back or use team orders to overtake each other on track.
The fans were expecting action during the Canadian Grand Prix. Although, everyone’s eyes were focused on the front runner Max Verstappen and George Russell. The two McLarens were starting from behind. There were almost no predictions of an in-team battle in between the Papaya cars. However, the entire action between the championship leaders ended too soon. Lando Norris drove into the back of Oscar Piastri and ended his race on lap 67.
McLaren’s strategy of letting their drivers race has not backfired yet. The two have driver absolutely amazing without causing any troubles. However, after an intense battle the Papaya cars finally collided during the Canadian Grand Prix.

In the final laps of the race, Lando Norris was closing in on teammate Oscar Piastri. It was visible that his car had more than Piastri. Norris started from 7th on the grid and was eyeing a podium finish. On the other hand, Piastri lost his podium early on was racing carefully to keep his lead in the world championship. The two drivers got into an on track battle. Norris did manage to overtake Piastri with DRS but rhe Aussie fought back equally well.
Everything was going well until the start of lap 67. Lando Norris was trying to pull along the left side of Oscar Piastri and use DRS to overtake him. There was a misjudgement on his end as he clipped his front wing and went into the barriers ending his race. Piastri meanwhile did not have heavy damage and could continue the race. However, the safety car ended the race and Piastri could not make the overtake on Kimi Antonelli for reclaiming his podium for the race.
Contrary to popular beliefs, there is no drama in the McLaren camp. Almost immediately, Norris took responsibility for the crash and apologised to his teammate and pit wall.

It was heartbreaking for the Briton but he did not waiver from his general attitude. As it stands currently, the in-team battle in McLaren is still rather friendly. There’s no reason to create any rumors about potential Discord between the two drivers. The accident was a genuine mistake from Lando Norris who was desperately trying to gain more points in the championship. The upcoming races are going to be important for Lando as he has a significant gap to cover for the championship lead.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
