George Russell Celebrates Father’s Day at the Canadian GP!

A special victory for George Russell who celebrated Father's Day in Montreal!

George Russell was arguably the best driver of the weekend. The practice sessions were a proof of Mercedes’ pace in Canada. After claiming pole on Saturday, the race was getting ready for big showdown. George Russell was starting alongside Max Verstappen.

The pair were engaged in a huge rivalry since Spain 2025. However, throughout the race George Russell kept his lead and did not fumble. Max Verstappen put in aggressive attacks to try and overtake Russell during the race. The race pace of Mercedes was better than any other car during the Canadian GP weekend. However, George Russell had a special moment after his race victory. Russell went on to celebrate the race in the name of one of the most important person in his career.

George Russell Dedicates Victory in Canadian GP to Father

After the race, Russell had to sign the champagne bottle being the winner. However, he went a step further and wrote a message for his father. He later explained that it was his Father’s Day present to his father. Talking about the significance of the moment, Russell explained his views in the post-race interviews–

“Yeah. It’s definitely a special moment to win on Father’s Day because, I mean, for all of us, our fathers have been such huge figures in our life and racing career. My father was at a go-kart track today with my eight-year-old nephew, go-karting, and starting journey number three of motorsport after myself and my older brother. And, you know, they got back after probably a six-hour-long drive this evening to watch the Grand Prix and then to win for him, the whole team, it’s really special and it means a lot.”

George Russell is still without a contract for the 2026 season. His performance in Montreal will surely help his chances in the upcoming world championship. Russell is more confident with his car now. He is still fighting for a world championship in the top-4. Although, Russell needs to pickup more wins if he wants to topple the McLarens.

Mercedes won in Austria during the 2024 Formula 1 season. Now that their car is starting to feel competitive, the next race will be even more competitive for the McLarens.
