Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has made it clear that Marc Guehi should not be allowed to leave without a proper replacement, despite Liverpool’s improved offer for the defender. The 24-year-old centre-back, who captained Palace to a 3-0 victory at Aston Villa on Sunday and scored a stunning goal, remains a key figure in the club’s plans.

Liverpool submitted a bid worth £35 million plus a 10% sell-on clause on Saturday, with Palace understood to be open to a package rising to £40 million including add-ons. However, the South London club are determined to retain their captain, particularly given his importance to their defensive structure and the limited time left to secure a suitable replacement.
Guehi remains under contract at Selhurst Park, giving Palace full control of the situation. Glasner stressed this point in his post-match press conference: “There is no deal. We can decide, he is our player and under contract. It is up to us.” The Austrian manager underlined Guehi’s value to Palace’s ambitions this season, highlighting the defensive organisation built around him and the difficulty of finding a Premier League-ready replacement on short notice.
Despite their firm stance, Palace are preparing for eventualities. Brighton defender Igor Julio is close to joining on loan with an option to buy, while Chelsea’s Axel Disasi is also under consideration. The Frenchman, currently outside of Enzo Maresca’s first-team plans, could emerge as another defensive target.
🚨⚠️ There’s still no green light for Joe Gomez to AC Milan from Liverpool.

Joe Gomez’s name has surfaced in discussions between Palace and Liverpool, but the Merseyside club are unwilling to sanction either a loan or permanent departure for the 28-year-old.

With Palace unbeaten in their first six games of the season and fresh from qualifying for the UEFA Conference League group stage, Glasner sees Guehi as non-negotiable to their continued success. For now, the England international’s contract keeps Palace in the driving seat, even as Liverpool look to strengthen their backline.
