Manchester United have reached an agreement with Real Betis over the transfer of Brazilian winger Antony in a deal worth around €25 million (£21.6m). The agreement brings an end to one of United’s most troubled signings in recent memory. Notably, the 25-year-old Brazilian international is now set to move permanently to Spain.
The deal is structured as €22m fixed plus €3m in bonuses, alongside a significant 50% sell-on clause. Crucially for United, there will be no pay-off to Antony despite earlier reports suggesting the player wanted compensation for the termination of his contract. Negotiations had briefly broken down last week when Betis initially pulled their offer, but fresh talks over the weekend ensured a breakthrough.

Manuel Pellegrini and Real Betis remained keen on bringing Antony back to Andalusia following his successful loan spell last season. Antony scored nine goals and provided five assists in 26 games while on loan at Betis in the second half of last season. Antony is now set to undergo a medical before finalizing his move, ending a difficult chapter at Old Trafford.
Antony was among the players earmarked for departure by Manchester United this summer. The Brazilian was a part of the so-called “bomb squad” that also included Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia. The group trained separately from the first team and were barred from Carrington until Amorim and his squad had departed for the day.
Rashford has since joined Barcelona on loan, while Garnacho has completed a £40m switch to Chelsea. Talks are also progressing over potential exits for Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia. For United, the outcome represents relief after months of speculation. Antony joined the Red Devils from Ajax in 2022 for £86m. However, the Brazilian never lived up to his price tag at the club, delivering inconsistent performances and attracting criticism both on and off the pitch.

The club held firm on pushing for a permanent sale rather than a loan. The inclusion of a 50% sell-on clause reflects United’s hope of benefiting should Antony rediscover his Ajax form and attract interest in future windows.
