Manchester City are preparing a £75 million bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. However, Man City will face fierce competition from Chelsea and Manchester United as the race for one of England’s brightest prospects intensifies. City boss Pep Guardiola is a long-term admirer of Elliot Anderson and has been closely tracking his performances since his £35 million move from Newcastle in 2024.
The 22-year-old midfielder’s technical ability, composure under pressure and tactical intelligence have impressed Guardiola. The Spanish manager sees Elliot Anderson as a potential successor to Rodri especially with Rodri’s future uncertain amid interest from Real Madrid and persistent injury troubles.

Anderson’s stock has soared since his transfer to Nottingham Forest, where he’s become a vital presence in midfield. This season, he has made seven Premier League appearances, registering one assist, after contributing two goals and six assists last season. He has also gained European experience in the Europa League while emerging as one of the league’s most industrious midfielders. Notably, Elliot Anderson tops club charts for passes completed in the opposition half (244) and possession recoveries (47) this season.
His rise has also translated onto the international stage. Since Thomas Tuchel handed him his England debut in August, Anderson has quickly become a mainstay in the Three Lions’ midfield. In the recent 5–0 win over Latvia, he completed 121 passes, created two chances and won seven duels.

Sources close to the situation reveal that Manchester United have also entered the race to sign Elliot Anderson. Officials from the club met with Anderson’s representatives at CAA Stellar to present their long-term project. However, both City and Chelsea are expected to push aggressively for his signature before the 2026 World Cup, where his value could skyrocket if he continues his current trajectory.

England manager Tuchel recently praised Anderson’s impact as he said,
“Elliot Anderson’s just a very, very good football player. He has the physicality, he’s very mobile at No 6. He has the body, he loves to defend, he loves to put his body inside to duels. He loves passing, he loves to break the lines, he’s very mobile in this game. It was a pleasure to see.”
With Anderson set to play a key role for England in North America next summer, a transfer battle among England’s top clubs appears inevitable.
