Manchester City Prepare Contract Extension for Rodri Amid Real Madrid Interest

Manchester City are reportedly ready to offer Rodri a substantial new contract that would see the Spanish midfielder become the second-highest paid player at the club. This move comes as City manager Pep Guardiola aims to secure the long-term future of their Ballon d’Or-winning star amid strong interest from Real Madrid.

Despite having a contract that runs until 2027, City are keen to avoid entering the final two years of Rodri’s deal without clarity. Talks have been ongoing internally, with club executives eager to reward the 29-year-old for his elite performances and his leadership. Rodri has grown into a central figure at Manchester City, delivering standout performances across the Premier League and Champions League.

Manchester City Ready To Reward Rodri With New Contract

Rodri has solidified his place as one of the best midfielders in world football. His influence peaked in 2024 when he was crowned Ballon d’Or winner, making him even more vital to Pep Guardiola’s future plans. According to Daily Star, Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak is determined to keep Rodri at the Etihad. Man City have a renewal offer ready that would significantly raise Rodri’s wages. It would place him just behind the club’s top earner Erling Haaland.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also recently confirmed that Rodri’s priority is to stay with City. The 29-year-old is believed to be fully settled in Manchester. As a result, he is not currently considering a return to La Liga. City view Rodri as a potential future captain due to his consistency, mentality and experience.

Notably, Rodri missed most of the last season after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Rodri’s importance to City has only grown over the years.
