Can the Australian Open champ book her spot in the quarterfinals?
In a battle of two seeded players, Madison Keys battles Anna Kalinskaya for a place in the 2025 Charleston Open final eight. While the Australian Open champion had to work hard to beat Caroline Dolehide in her first match, Kalinskaya came through a relatively easier encounter in the Round of 32. The winner will take on either Sofia Kenin or Daria Kasatkina in the QF stage.
Despite not having the best record on clay, Madison Keys is currently in the form of her life. The No. 5 player in the world and seeded second at this event, she is one of the form favourites for the title. She has an impressive 74% win rate on her service games on this surface, but a mere 45% break points converted. Returning after a shock loss in Miami, the 30-year-old looks for a quick turnaround.
Losing to the Charleston Open top seed Jessica Pegula in a Miami Open thriller last week, Anna Kalinskaya is on her redemption arc. A former World No. 11, the Russian has collapsed to No. 33 in the world. Despite having a lukewarm 3-5 record on clay over the past year, the 26-year-old pulled off a dominant win over Caty McNally in Round-2.
Madison Keys leads the head to head against Anna Kalinskaya 1-0 so far. Their only meeting came in 2022.
In spite of being on the circuit for a long time, Keys and Kalinskaya have never come face to face on the WTA Tour. Their only meeting was at a Grand Slam event – Keys got the better of her Russian counterpart at the 2022 French Open. Their second meeting on Thursday will also be on the same surface, but will there be a change of result?

Madison Keys about how winning a Slam changes her life:
— We Are Tennis (@WeAreTennis) April 3, 2025
"Now the girls raise their level a lot when they play against me. It's my new reality since I won AO. That's what winning a Grand Slam does, you shoot up in the rankings and position yourself where many aspire to be." pic.twitter.com/ZWFUHVuHmW
American No. 3 Madison Keys is on collision course with top seed Jessica Pegula, provided both of them make it to the final. Acknowledging the fact that there are multiple obstacles along the way, we don’t believe this will be one of them. There is no doubt that on a given day, Kalinskaya is one of the most fierce strikers of the tennis ball. But considering form and the home support, Keys is the one to place your bets on.
Prediction: Madison Keys in straight sets.
Madison Keys Win: 1/4
Anna Kalinskaya Win: 11/4
