Lois Boisson stuns Jessica Pegula to reach Roland Garros quarters.
In one of the most astonishing upsets of this year’s Roland Garros, 22-year-old French wildcard Lois Boisson shocked world No. 3 Jessica Pegula, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a gripping three-set battle on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Ranked 361st in the world and making her Grand Slam main-draw debut, Boisson is now the last French player standing, and she’s not done dreaming yet.

Boisson’s victory is all the more remarkable given her journey. Sidelined by injury last year and unable to use a wildcard entry, she returned to Paris this year with no expectations and everything to gain. And gain she did, delivering a performance fueled by raw grit and the energy of an electrifying home crowd.
Pegula took early control, breaking Boisson three times and cruising through the opening set in just over 30 minutes. The second set was more tightly contested, with both players trading breaks. Boisson was broken at 3-3 after missing two break point chances but responded brilliantly, breaking back, holding to love, and then breaking again to take the set.
In the decider, Boisson grabbed the early break but Pegula broke back, setting up a tense finish. Ultimately, Boisson earned a decisive break on her fourth opportunity and held serve in a dramatic 12-minute final game, saving four break points to seal a career-defining victory.

“I knew before the match there was a possibility [I could win], but I knew she was very, very tough,” Boisson said after the match. “I gave my all and in the end, I won, which is just incredible.”
When asked how it felt to achieve such a career-defining win, Boisson said, “The atmosphere was absolutely phenomenal. Thank you to the amazing crowd.”
Just a year ago, Boisson was recovering from knee surgery. Now, she owns the moment. When reminded of that by her on-court interviewer, she smiled and simply said, “It’s good to be here.”

I understood those voices aren't noise; they're emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
