Liam Lawson says "it's tough" after getting sacked at Red Bull Racing.
Liam Lawson is arguably the unluckiest driver in the 2025 F1 paddock right now. Lawson was an irreplacable talent. He was asked to become the answer to Red Bull’s second seat problems. Lawson had an amazing stint in his previous interactions with a Formula 1 car. Lawson raced for Racing Bulls in 2023 and 2024 as a replacement driver. He was able to bring his car into points finish many times during his 11-race campaign. Liam Lawson’s consistency gave him the edge over Yuki Tsunoda. Lawson joined Red Bull Racing as a second driver in 2025.
Although, the Kiwi driver did not get a lot of time to relish his new team. Lawson found himself competing with Racing Bulls driver, Yuki Tsunoda. He could not bring in any good results for the team in the first two races of the season. His lack of results, paired with Tsunoda’s better performance relegated him to the junior team again. Liam Lawson is the second driver from Red Bull to earn a mid-season demotion. Lawson’s demotion came two weeks in, in the Formula 1 2025 season. Let’s look at what Liam Lawson had to say about his demotion from Red Bull Racing.
It was not long after the big news, Lawson shared a post on social media. He described his journey towards becoming a Formula 1 driver and included an emotional message. Liam Lawson’s Instagram post attaracted the attention of many fans and critics. F1 experts are analysing Liam Lawson’s condition ever since the announcement has arrived. Some experts expressed their support towards the New Zealander, while some highlighted the tough nature of the sport.
Liam Lawson has also earned the silent support of few drivers on social media. Some drivers were seeking liking a post thrashing Red Bull Racing for their decision and hasty move against him. In his Instagram post, Liam Lawson said-
“It’s tough, but I’m grateful for everything that’s brought me to this point. To every one of you who’s stood by me, thank you for all the support, it means the world. Thank you Racing Bulls for the warm welcome, I’m excited and ready to go to work at one of my favourite places in Japan.”

Liam Lawson is no stranger to the Suzuka Internation Circuit. He has previously raced in Japan in the Super Formula series earning a lot of success. After taking an uncertain turn, Liam Lawson’s career is still under question. He will have to perform exceptionally well if he wants to claw his way back to the top seat.
Yuki Tsunoda needs to fullfill a big gap a Red Bull Racing. Do you think the Japanese talent will be able to grow under Red Bull Racing’s harsh and unforgiving environment? Follow The Playoffs for latest news about the Formula 1 paddock.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
