Kylian Mbappe had sparked concern after limping off late during France’s 3–0 win over Azerbaijan in World Cup 2026 qualifying. Despite scoring a stunning opener and providing an assist for Adrien Rabiot, the 26-year-old signalled to the bench with just eight minutes remaining and was substituted as a precaution.
Mbappe had already been struggling with ankle discomfort since Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Villarreal. He was a doubt for France’s World Cup qualifier and even skipped several training sessions during the week. Despite that, France manager Didier Deschamps still chose to start him against Azerbaijan.
Real Madrid’s medical team moved swiftly to assess his condition, especially with crucial fixtures on the horizon. The Spanish giants face Getafe in La Liga on October 19 before hosting Juventus in the Champions League on October 22. Los Blancos then take on arch-rivals Barcelona in El Clasico on October 26. Los Blancos fans can now breathe a sigh of relief as Kylian Mbappe’s ankle injury is not as serious as initially feared.
