Can the American reach her fourth final of the season?
Jessica Pegula remained on course for a second title and fourth final of the season at the 2025 Charleston Open, and her next hurdle is Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova. While Pegula took out defending champion Danielle Collins in the quarterfinals, Alexandrova got the better of third seed and reigning Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen.
All the momentum at the Charleston Open this year was with two women – Pegula who made the final in Miami last week, and Collins who won this trophy last year. Despite losing the first set comfortably, the 2024 US Open finalist roared back to win 1-6 6-3 6-0. She has already won a title on American soil this year – the 31-year-old captured the Austin crown after dropping a mere solitary set. But her semifinal challenge in Charleston is a familiar foe.
Ekaterina Alexandrova edged out Pegula when they faced one another at the Qatar Open earlier this year. It was the World No. 26’s best performance this season – wherein she dumped out Aryna Sabalenka, Emma Raducanu and Pegula before falling to Amanda Anisimova in the semifinal stage. Like her counterpart, Alexandrova has won one trophy this season – at the Linz Open.
The head to head record between Jessica Pegula and Ekaterina Alexandrova stands at 2-1 in favour of the latter.
Ekaterina Alexandrova has won the two most recent meetings between the pair. Meanwhile, this is Pegula’s third straight Charleston Open semifinal, which gives her a much-needed boost to level up this duel. The last match-up between Pegula and Alexandrova was close to two months ago – in Doha. It is a rivalry that dates back to 2021, and is set to be renewed on Saturday.

Considering Pegula’s strong 23-6 record this season, it is hard to look past her. On the other hand, Alexandrova has played fewer matches – which could be a boon as well as a bane. The Russian has a 12-7 start to the 2025 campaign, and is a former Charleston semifinalist herself. Nonetheless, we predict the top seed to battle her way into the summit clash.
Prediction: Jessica Pegula in three sets.
Jessica Pegula Win: 2/5
Ekaterina Alexandrova Win: 7/4
