Jack Draper has stormed into the Madrid Open Final with a win over Lorenzo Musetti.
Jack Draper is doing it all in 2025! At last year’s Mutua Madrid Open, the British southpaw was ranked No. 43 in the world. Starting the season with a huge improvement from the previous year, Draper was the World No. 15. When he entered the 2025 Madrid Open draw, he was No. 6 in the ATP Rankings. Now, Draper has achieved something that only the great Rafael Nadal has done throughout this century.
On Thursday, the No. 5 seed required just 77 minutes to defeat Matteo Arnaldi in his quarterfinal clash at the Spanish capital. He did not face a single break point during the course of the encounter, and improved his record this year to 18-4 in the process. Earlier this week, Arnaldi beat 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic at La Caja Magica.

By virtue of this massive victory, Jack Draper will soon become the World No. 5 when the new ATP Rankings are released on Monday. The 23-year-old will enter the Top-5 for the first time in his career, and is currently bidding to win his second Masters-1000 trophy of the year. Additionally, Madrid 2025 is his maiden tour-level final on the red dirt.

Currently the highest ranked left-handed player in the world, Jack Draper has joined Rafael Nadal to cap off an exclusive record. By entering the gold standard of the ATP next week, Draper is set to become just the second leftie to be a Top-5 player in the 21st century. There are no prizes for guessing the first – none other than 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal.
While Nadal not only broke into the Top-5 but also went on to scale the highest peak, Draper will be hoping to replicate the feat. Provided the 2024 US Open semifinalist wins the championship on Manolo Santana Stadium this week, he will be within 25 points of Taylor Fritz – the current No. 4 player in the world.
Draper’s victims this week include Tallon Griekspoor, Matteo Berrettini, Tommy Paul and Matteo Arnaldi. He is now third in the Live Race to Turin – surpassing World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. It has been a near perfect outing for the Brit – so much so that he is yet to drop a set thus far. Next up will be Italy’s single-handed backhand specialist Lorenzo Musetti, who also broke new ground by confirming an ATP Top-10 entry next week.
As Roland Garros approaches, Jack Draper will pump in every last ounce of his energy and effort into securing a clay court title before heading to Paris.
