‘I Am Going To Show Everybody How Good I Am’ – Ian Garry Hypes Up Short Notice Match-Up Against Carlos Prates

Zaid Quraishi

Ian Garry showcases his 'anayone anytime anywehere' mentality after accepting to fight Carlos Prates at UFC Kansas!

Within the competitive landscape of the UFC welterweight division , fighters must seize every opportunity that comes their way, especially after facing setbacks. This is exactly the position that Irish sensation Ian Garry finds himself in as he prepares for his next octagon appearance.

Ian Garry burst onto the UFC scene with tremendous hype behind him. The charismatic Irishman drew early comparisons to his countryman Conor McGregor. This was due to his confident personality and willingness to trash talk. With his undefeated record and precision striking, Garry quickly became a name to watch in the welterweight division.

However, his momentum hit a roadblock when he suffered his first professional loss against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 last December, a setback that has only seemed to fuel his determination.

Ian Garry Ready to headline UFC Kansas!

After tasting defeat for the first time in his professional career, Ian Garry isn’t taking much time to lick his wounds. The Irishman is already booked for his next challenge. He accepted a short notice fight against the dangerous Carlos Prates at the upcoming UFC Kansas City event.

Carlos Prates is no pushover. He is riding an impressive four-fight win streak in the UFC. The Fighting Nerds member  is known for his knockout power, having finished the majority of his 21 professional victories. The #7 ranked Garry is putting it all on the line against the upcoming yet lower ranked (#13) Prates on short notice. A loss here could be extremely detrimental to his championship dreams. But his willingness to fight is what separates him from the rest!

Ian Garry Hypes Up His Willingness To Fight

When the matchup was announced, Ian Garry took to Instagram with a message that makes it clear he’s coming with a vengeance. He revealed that he was the one that takes on anyone on short notice and doesn’t make excuses.

“I’m excited. Why? The UFC goes, ‘Ah, we need someone. Who do we need? Who do we call?’ You call me. Why? Because I’m a real fighter who wants to fight the best in the world. I’m going to show everybody how good I am. Carlos Prates is awesome, but this is my world. I love to fight. There is nothing in this world I love more than fighting.”

Garry acknowledged Prates’ skills but made it clear whose night he believes it will be. The Irish fighter has taken three (comparatively) short notice fights in the UFC. One was recently against Shavkat Rakhmonov (21 days), the other was against Joaquin Buckley (44 days). This fight against Prates will be his third with a training duration of 25 days.

It remains to be seen if Garry can take on the challenge and get back in the win column!
