World No. 1 Jannik Sinner marked his return to the court after a two-week gap and he kicked off his hard-court preparation for the US Open with the ATP 1000 Masters event in Ohio. The Italian ace dispatched his rival in just 59 minutes on Saturday to make a solid start to the competition. During the press conference, the four-time major champions spoked about his approach to prepare for the big games.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner Takes Confidence from Practice Sessions not Tournaments

Sinner is the defending champions at Cincinnati Masters and the 23-year-old also won the US Open last year. The world no. 1 would look to defend the title in American swing and he crossed the first hurdle in style. Sinner opened up on his approach towards the game and the 2025 Wimbledon champion believes training is more important than tournaments.

“I’m one kind of person who takes the confidence out of the practice sessions,” Jannik Sinner said. “And, when I feel ready physically. When I feel ready mentally, when I feel that shots are in the right spots, I’m just ready to play.”

Jannik Sinner took a break after the Wimbledon and missed out the Masters event in Toronto. The Italian ace went on a break and worked on physical and mental strength. He said: “I feel confident, you know, and that’s exactly what we did also after London, I took my time off. But, then when I came back, I was working very, very hard.”

Sinner used the previous two-week break for physical training. He worked on his shots and did practice at the tennis club. “We had very long days, at the tennis club with the physical training, tennis and physio and everything. There was so long days, you wake up early and you go to sleep actually quite late. And then I take my confidence from there. Not from tournaments played or matches played,” the four-time Grand Slam winner concluded.

Sinner reached the finals of all three Grand Slam events this year and won two titles in Melbourne and London. His only defeat in the major final came at Roland Garros and it was a most thrilling game where Carlos had the last laugh by pulling off one of the greatest comebacks. The top seed will now take on Gabriel Diallo in the round of 32.
