The Dallas Cowboys snapped their home win drought with a 27-20 win over the New York Giants in their NFL Thanksgiving Day Week 13 matchup. It was a game flooded by missed opportunities, penalties, and punts, and it came down to which team could make fewer mistakes. And the Cowboys, just barely, managed to outlast their NFC East rivals.
With the win, Dallas stretched their winning streak to eight games against the Giants.
Team | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | Final |
Dallas Cowboys | 3 | 10 | 14 | 0 | 27 |
New York Giants | 7 | 3 | 0 | 10 | 20 |
The game began with some promise for the Giants, as they took a 7-3 lead into the second quarter. New York was able to convert several key third and fourth downs. A 3rd-and-6 run by Drew Lock brought the Giants down to the Dallas 1-yard line, where Tracy completed a touchdown.
Despite the Giants’ early lead, the game quickly turned into a punting contest. In fact, the two teams combined for a mere 33 yards and five punts in the final seven minutes of the first half.
The Cowboys, however, managed to settle into a rhythm with kicker Brandon Aubrey’s 33-yard field goal to cut the Giants’ lead to 7-6, before heading into the second quarter.
The game’s momentum shifted when Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown disrupted a block by New York’s Devin Singletary. He tipped Drew Lock’s pass to himself and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown, giving Dallas a 13-7 lead heading into halftime.
Cooper Rush, who otherwise had an ordinary outing, made the most important throw of his day in the second half. After a fumble recovery by the Cowboys’ defense, Dallas marched down the field to the Giants’ 2-yard line.
Rush, who had nearly fumbled himself on a scramble, found Brandin Cooks in the left corner of the end zone for the Cowboys’ first offensive touchdown of the day, pushing Dallas ahead 20-10 early in the third quarter.
Rico Dowdle then capped off a 9-play with a 4-yard touchdown run, his first of the season. Aubrey’s extra point extended the Cowboys’ lead to 27-10 to end the third quarter.
However, New York did show some fight in the fourth quarter. After a second sack by Micah Parsons, who was all over the field, the Giants managed to set up a 47-yard field goal from Graham Gano to cut the deficit to 27-13.
Late in the game, Drew Lock, who was making his first start for the Giants, ran for a touchdown, his first since 2021. But despite Gano’s extra point cutting the score to 27-20, the Giants couldn’t mount a serious comeback.
