The inital plans for General Motors was to power Andretti Autosport. Although, these plans did not work in their favor, General Motors still got the approval to join Formula 1 with Cadillac. Cadillac is a subsidiary of GM’s automotive operations. General Motors still does not have the research or the technology necessary to provide power units in Formula 1. Thus, they will have to rely on Ferrari to power their cars for the upcoming F1 season.
The American giant has taken positive step forward with their latest development in the F1 championship. The past week was an important one for the new power unit manufactuer.
TWG Motorsports and General Motors have joined hands to work together and build power units in Formula 1. The recent news is exciting for both fans and the F1 paddock. Formula 1 and FIA have granted approval to GM Performance Power Units LLC to join the grid from the 2029 season. This means that, their daughter team- Cadillac F1, won’t have to wait indefinitely to run their own power units.
Even though, the team and manufacturers are based in USA. They have setup their office in Silverstone to spearhead the operations for their F1 programme. General Motors will also setup new headquarters in Fishers, Indiana.

Ben Sulayem insists that addition of GM and Cadillac to Formula 1 will help the organisation become more inclusive and accessible worldwide. He says that, F1 is keen on adding “new manufacturers, advancing technology, and connecting with a broader, more diverse fan base.”
General Motors and Cadillac are going to become the second American team competing in Formula 1. It will help F1’s cause in America. The pinnacle of motorsports has been trying their best to gain a stable following in America. They have been struggling to compete against USA’s premier motorsports series- NASCAR and IndyCar.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
