Hungary is not known for exciting Formula 1 races usually. The Hungaroring is a rather calm track which favours strategy over flashy overtakes. However, today’s qualifying session was a different story. Hungary Grand Prix 2025 is gearing up for an exciting start after the qualifying session. The race weekend is significantly more competitive among the front runner teams. The results from today’s session were highly unpredictable.
The Hungary Grand Prix qualifying session led to many winners and losers. This time around, the newer drivers found themselves ahead of their much experiences teammates. Also, the usual contenders were interchanged throughout the three stages of qualifying. Ultimately, the pole position went to Ferrari. It is their first start from pole in 2025. However, Ferrari was facing more than enjoyment after today’s session. Here’s why the team was behaving like two sides of the same coin in today’s qualifying.
There’s no doubt that Ferrari drivers are inherently struggling in the 2025 championship. Charles Leclerc is the only one who has managed to tame the SF25 enough to claim podiums. His teammate is rather unlucky with far less points and less magnificent results.
There was always some difference between the two drivers and their results throughout the season. However, the disparity between the two Prancing Horses was never as bad as today. Initially, both Ferraris were facing difficulties in the first stages. Lewis Hamilton could not go further than Q2. The problem arose when wind direction helped Charles Leclerc in the finals runs.
"I'm useless, absolutely useless" 😔

At the end of the day, one Ferrari was starting the race on pole and the other Ferrari was meekly starting P12. While Charles Leclerc was enjoying the results and his climb to pole, Lewis Hamilton was sulking during interviews. The man who has won seven Formula 1 titles went as far as calling himself a “useless” driver.
The Tifosi are divided into two groups. While they are celebrating their return to the front-row, the lingering disappointment from Hamilton’s words hit hard. Ferrari is branching out into two different camps.
Charles 🗣️ "It's a big boost for the team. Everyone has been pushing very hard to bring upgrades and take steps in the right direction, so this result shows that we are doing something right."

Ready to push after today's Pole 🇭🇺
On one hand is their golden boy, Charles Leclerc who is getting better almost every race. On the other hand is their ticket to success, Lewis Hamilton losing his confidence severely as the season progresses. The team might witness a big fallout if it keeps going this way. Ferrari’s troubles aren’t going away anywhere soon. It seems like a repeat telecast of Sebastian Vettel’s hard fought years at the Maranello team.
No matter the choice of your favourite team, there are some grave issues underlying in the team if a legend like Lewis Hamilton ends up calling himself a derogatory word because of his performance.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
