The Spanish GP home hero Fernando Alonso claims points in a "special" race.
Fernando Alonso is driving in one of his worst F1 seasons yet. Alonso did not manage to score any points in his Aston Martin until the Spanish GP. He was a fan favorite in his home race and was able to deliver under pressure. In the past few races Alonso always faces some kind of failure with his car.
The unreliable performance of his Aston Martin compelled him to call himself the unluckiest F1 driver. Although, the 2025 Spanish GP was a completely different story. Alonso got himself into Q3 for the second time this season at Barcelona. He was determined to make the most out of the opportunity. The Spaniard went on to claim his first points of 2025 with a ninth place finish.
Fernando Alonso’s Spanish GP wasn’t as easy as he would have wanted. The Spaniard found himself into the gravel during the first stage of the race. Alonso had to pit for fresher tyres and race at the back of the pack.
Once again, all hope was lost for Fernando Alonso and he was lurking out of points. But El Padre wasn’t giving up. He started picking off drivers one by one by gaining momentum and places. Alonso’s aggresive driving caught the attention of commentators who were praising his brave overtakes. In the penultimate lap, Alonso overtook Liam Lawson to claim P10. He was promoted to P9 following Max Verstappen’s penalty.

“I’m pleased, pleased for the fans as well that were very excited at the end, I saw the people standing up and things like that in the last few laps, so happy for them. For us, the race was more difficult than anticipated, we were very slow on the straights. All the moves we had to be aggressive on Turn 3 on the outside, so not a normal overtaking place but it is what we had today. I definitely felt more comfortable on Saturday than Sunday.”
Fernando Alonso also noted that his team has made some progress from the previous races. Although, Aston Martin are at a disadvantage due to Lance Stroll’s absence. Fernando Alonso had his last F1 win on his home soil in Barcelona. Thus, scoring his first points of the season was equally special for him. Alonso will be looking forward towards Canada with his newfound confidence.
I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university's Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
