Know all about today's qualifying results from the Austrian GP weekend

The F1 qualifying today came to an end after three vigorous sessions throughout the event. Red Bull Ring brought forward the best of the drives during today’s session for the Austrian Grand Prix weekend. The qualifying included some regular performers joined in by newcomers. There were many nail biting moments during all three stages of F1 qualifying today. Lando Norris is going to be the happiest driver for tomorrow’s race. The free practice sessions brought out the best in Lando Norris in Austria. He was flying during the qualifying session today as he bested other drivers for the pole position.

The Austrian Grand Prix is known for its track limits and related penalties. However, the drivers managed to keep their cars out of steward’s eyes with clean laps during the session. There was a slight hiccup during Q2 due to grass-fire. It was easily put out. The commentators discussed the probability of FIA mandating steel skid plates on cars for producing less sparks. Altogether, the qualifying session ended up being an exciting mayhem of 20 cars trying to steal the best track position for tomorrow’s race.

The results from today’s qualifying session are already out. Here are the top-10 drivers from today’s session at the Red Bull Ring-

  1. Lando Norris
  2. Charles Leclerc
  3. Oscar Piastri
  4. Lewis Hamilton
  5. George Russell
  6. Liam Lawson
  7. Max Verstappen
  8. Gabriel Bortoleto

Lando Norris drove his McLaren to an extremely fast lap time of 1:03.971. The Papaya driver was the favorite for pole all weekend since Friday. He was already dominating other drivers on track during the qualifying session. Norris bested his teammate by a huge margin. Charles Leclerc followed Lando Norris in second. The Ferrari driver has secured a front row start but his timings were incredibly slow compared to Norris. Ferrari’s upgrades are working although not as much as he would like. Oscar Piastri was rather meek during qualifying session in Austria. His final lap was ruined by a yellow flag. However, experts believe he would not be able to beat Lando’s time.

Lewis Hamilton had a better qualifying session compared to his previous outings in 2025. Hamilton was not complaining about his car at the Red Bull Ring. He will have the chance to fight for his first podium with the McLarens and his teammate tomorrow. George Russell was the better out of the two Silver Arrows. The hot temperature in Austria clearly proved disadvantageous for Mercedes F1.

Disappointment for Old Players and Delight for Newcomers

Surprisingly, Liam Lawson was able to claim his qualifying form once again at Red Bull Ring. He put in a P6 in the final laps of Q3. Max Verstappen was challenging the frontrunners all session. He could only manage a P7 after having to abort his flying lap. Max was clearly unhappy with his car today. The final spots were secured by the surprise arrival of Gabriel Bortoleto. The 2024 F2 champion brought P8 and his first Q3 in 2025.

HIs fellow rookie, Kimi Antonelli, had a disappointing session. Antonelli recently secured his first podium but he will have to suffice with fighting for points at the Red Bull Ring. Pierre Gasly brought Alpine back in Q3 with a respectable P10. The Frenchman is carrying Alpine’s hopes for a points finish. He spun out in his final attempt causing a yellow flag but he was rather fast with the new upgrades.

Qualifying Losers Today- Trouble at Red Bull Racing and Williams F1

Franco Colapinto was able to bring yet another Q2 finish but his team will be satisfied with his performance. Fernando Alonso and Alex Albon were left frustrated. Their efforts could only bring P11 and P12 respectively. Meanwhile, Albon’s teammate was evidently struggling to keep his car under control.

Isack Hadjar was quick enough in the first session but his pace dropped in Q2 leading to his elimination. The same happened to Oliver Bearman, who was slower in Q2 compared to his first session. Yuki Tsunoda had multiple issues with his car, leading to yet another Q1 exit. He was joined in by Esteban Ocon and Nico Hulkenberg.
