High-Stakes Rematch as Collins-Kalinskaya Clash in Quarterfinals
Danielle Collins will face Anna Kalinskaya today in the WTA Strasbourg quarterfinals, and both players have battled their way through tight contests to get here. Kalinskaya pulled off back-to-back upsets, first over Caroline Dolehide and then top seed Jessica Pegula, both in grueling three-setters.
Collins, meanwhile, overcame two former Grand Slam champions, Sofia Kenin and wild card Emma Raducanu, also in three sets, to book her spot in the final eight. Now, a clash of comeback stories and rising momentum awaits in Strasbourg.

Last year, Collins won titles in Miami and Charleston and her momentum carried her to the final in Strasbourg, where she fell to Madison Keys in straight sets. Now, with Keys absent from this year’s Strasbourg field, Collins has a clear shot at redemption. Yet, 2025 hasn’t matched the highs of last season. She failed to defend either of her titles and, aside from a quarterfinal run in Charleston, has struggled to find consistency, exiting in or before the round of 16 at most events.

Down 4-6, 1-3.
Incredible effort from Anna.
She was 0-3 against Pegula before today & had lost some very tight matches… but her persistence payed off.

On the other side, Anna Kalinskaya’s campaign has been riddled with setbacks. A mix of injuries and illness forced her out of Adelaide, Melbourne, and Singapore. While she managed a solid semifinal showing in Singapore, only to withdraw, and a quarterfinal appearance in Charleston, where she fell to Sofia Kenin. The rest of her season has been underwhelming. Before Strasbourg, her YTD record stands at 7-10 this season.
Danielle Collins leads the head-to-head against Anna Kalinskaya 2-0. Their rivalry kicked off in Melbourne in 2023, where Collins battled through a tight three-setter. A few months later in Austin, she came from a set down to beat Kalinskaya once again. Now, over a year later, the two meet for a third time, this time in Strasbourg.
Both players arrive at this stage in very different form compared to their earlier encounters. Given how closely contested their previous matches were, Kalinskaya has a real opportunity to get her first win in the matchup. Still, Collins will be looking to assert her dominance once again and extend her unbeaten record against the Russian.

Given their history and current form, expect another close battle. But with Collins leading the head-to-head and showing strong resolve in tight matches this week, she enters as the slight favorite.
