Retirement fights carry emotional weight that regular bouts simply can’t match for competitors. Fighters know they’re stepping into the cage for the last time, trying to end careers on winning notes. The pressure intensifies when you’ve already announced your intentions publicly before the actual fight happens. Win or lose, that final walk out becomes deeply meaningful. And Henry Cejudo just went through that at UFC 323.
The former Olympic gold medalist and two-division UFC champion faced Payton Talbott on the final ESPN-era PPV card. Three judges scored it 30-27 for Talbott, handing Cejudo his fourth consecutive loss and ending his storied career officially. But after this was over, Cejudo had a final wish and Dana White honored it.
The numbers told one story when Cejudo’s hand wasn’t raised at UFC 323. But the Octagon told another completely. Bloodied, exhausted, and staring down the end of a career spanning Olympic glory and championship belts, Cejudo didn’t look like someone asking for sympathy. He looked like a man making peace with his journey coming to an emotional conclusion.
This was Cejudo’s goodbye to the sport that defined his adult life after wrestling. The emotional center of the bout came after the final horn when ‘Triple C’ spoke directly to Dana White inside the cage. According to multiple reports and footage circulating online, Cejudo said simply “It’s Time… 50Gs,” referencing the traditional bonuses handed out for standout performances. He was asking for recognition of his effort and career in his final competitive moment. That humble request from someone who once held two belts simultaneously showed remarkable self-awareness about where his career stood.
The UFC boss didn’t hesitate even for a second. White replied, “Hey I’ll give you $50k anyway,” granting Cejudo’s request without requiring further justification or debate. That immediate generosity toward a retiring legend demonstrated White’s respect for Cejudo’s contributions to the organization over more than a decade.
Henry Cejudo asked Dana White if he can get 50k for FOTN. Dana White said he will give Henry 50k anyways. Awesome stuff from the boss. #UFC323

In a sport often criticized for harsh business realities and promotional conflicts over compensation, this moment landed differently. White showing generosity toward a retiring fighter who lost his final bout gave fans a rare glimpse of humanity within the brutal business of combat sports promotion.
The gesture won’t change Cejudo’s legacy or bank account dramatically. But it provided a dignified conclusion to his fighting career, allowing him to walk away knowing the promotion valued his contributions even in defeat.
