The age-old rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi has once again been thrust into the spotlight. This time Ronaldo himself has reignited the flames. The Portuguese star sat down for a much-anticipated interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, set to air on November 4.

During that interview, Ronaldo addressed the comparison head-on. He refused to shy away from one of football’s most divisive debates. The clip that has been released ahead of the full interview, captures Ronaldo at his most candid. He was asked directly whether Messi was the better player.

He responded without hesitation, saying, “Messi better than me? I don’t agree with that opinion. I don’t want to be humble.” The answer was brief, direct, and unapologetic. And it instantly sent waves through the football community, reigniting discussions that have raged for nearly two decades.

Cristiano Ronaldo Says Rooney’s Comment ‘Doesn’t Bother’ Him

Piers Morgan didn’t stop there. He also brought up remarks from Wayne Rooney. Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate had previously publicly claimed that Messi was superior. But rather than showing irritation, Ronaldo brushed it aside coolly.

He said, “It doesn’t bother me at all.” His tone, according to Morgan, was calm but firm. The show set out to prove that he was a man comfortable in his own legacy. The interview preview also showcased Ronaldo’s lighter side.

He was also asked about reports of being the first athlete to reach billionaire status. Ronaldo couldn’t help but laugh and say, “That’s not true. I became a billionaire many years ago.” The quip drew laughter in the studio, offering a glimpse into Ronaldo’s mind another time.

A Conversation Beyond Football?

This upcoming sit-down marks another reunion between Ronaldo and Morgan. The last time these two sat down was back in 2022, resulting in an explosive conversation that made global headlines. It revolved around his Manchester United exit. But this one seems far more personal.

It seems to be a reflection of his self-belief, achievements, and his own perception of his place in football’s hierarchy. Ronaldo remains certain of his standing. But his words ensure that the Messi or Ronaldo debate stays relevant in the limelight.
