Cody Rhodes to get his revenge on Kevin Owens in a Ladders Match at Royal Rumble 2025.

The feud between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens sees no end. It seemed that Saturday Night Main Event would bring an end to the dispute between former friends. It wasn’t meant to be and to make things worse, it fueled their rivalry even more. Former allies are on their way to adding a new chapter that would be bloodied and brutal.

When did the Owens-Rhodes rivalry start?

Kevin Owens blamed Cody for siding with Roman Reigns, who tried to end K.O.’s career. K.O. launched a vicious attack on Cody and when Randy stopped him, he attacked him too. The Viper when came to confront K.O. in the ring, received a piledriver from him. Randy was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and has been out of WWE since then.

The American Nightmare fueled by the attack on his mentor and ally, Randy, vowed to beat the lesson of not using banned piledriver into K.O. Kevin promised to turn The American Nightmare into Canadian Dreams. Both the superstars were scheduled to lock horns at the Saturday Night Main event for the Undisputed Championship.

What happened at Saturday Night Main Event?

The match between The American Nightmare and K.O. was a tug-and-war game where both the superstars took turns to dominate. Owens tried to mock Cody using his father’s move which Cody didn’t like. Both the superstars showed some exceptional moves and went to near-stalemate but neither was ready to give up.

A push from K.O. to Cody threw the referee out of the ring. K.O. delivered a stunner to Cody and covered him but no one was there to count. It was too late till the second referee entered to make the count. An angry Owens bought the chair in the ring but it proved the reason for his loss. The American Nightmare performed a Cross Rhodes followed by Cody Cutter on the chair to win the match.

Kevin Owens couldn’t take a loss at the hand of Cody Rhodes and attacked Cody with a Piledriver. To make matters worse, he stood on Cody’s body with the Championship belt and left with it. The American Nightmare was rushed to the hospital in an Ambulance and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis and Triple H were furious with K.O. Things went south when Triple H and K.O. had a verbal and physical altercation and K.O. left with the “Eagle Winged Belt”.

When and Where would the two fight each other?

Nick Aldis asked Kevin to return the belt or he would never be able to set foot in WWE. Kevin Owens told him this was his chance to get what he deserved, a rematch because he was robbed of the title at SNME by referees. He wanted a match where the referee would not interrupt. Cody whose not fully recovered, entered the arena and asked Nick Aldis for a match where the referee would not stop what he would do to Kevin.

Nick Aldis had to announce that Cody Rhodes would defend his Undisputed Championship title against Kevin Owens in a Ladder Match at Royal Rumble 2025.
