The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 continues on Monday as Flamengo begin their campaign against ES Tunis at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Notably, this will be the first-ever competitive encounter between a Brazilian and Tunisian club on the global stage.

This is Flamengo’s third appearance at the Club World Cup. The Rubro-Negro reached the final in 2019 but they narrowly losing 1-0 to Liverpool in extra time. Their most recent campaign in Morocco in 2023 ended in disappointment after a semi-final exit to Al-Hilal. Riding a strong domestic run, Flamengo are back with a point to prove. Flamengo currently sit atop the Brasileirao, with seven wins from 11 matches.

With Gabriel Barbosa and Pedro in fine form, and a midfield well-marshalled by Gerson and De la Cruz, optimism is high that this version of Flamengo is well-equipped to go the distance. On the other side, ES Tunis return for their fourth Club World Cup appearance, having fallen at the quarter-final stage in all three previous editions. The Tunisian giants enter the tournament on the back of a turbulent domestic season, which saw appoint four different managers. Despite the upheaval, they still managed to claim the Tunisian league crown.
