The Golden State Valkyries (18-5, 6th) are the most determined team in the league. Just when you think their steam is out, the squad returns with fury.

They are on a four-game winning streak despite losing their leading scorer, Kayla Thornton, for the season. This never-say-die spirit has defined one of the most riveting expansion team performances in sports history.

On the other hand, the Atlanta Dream (21-12, 2nd) has risen through the ranks. The Seattle Storm broke their six-game winning streak by just two points. They look even more lethal since the return of Rhyne Howard.

The Dream guard is back with a bang. She is averaging 16.5 PPG on a rather shabby 34.7% FG. However, her tendency to jack up shots can overwhelm opponents when she gets it going, especially from deep range.

The guard scored 20+ in two straight games against a tenacious Seattle Storm perimeter defense. The Valkyries’ guard defense is amazing, too, but I expect Howard to score at least 16 here.

She is averaging 15 PPG in the last four games, shooting better than 40% on three occasions. Anyway, I expect her to score at least 9 here.

Janelle Salaun: Points

Salaun is enjoying a brilliant season. The forward is averaging 10.6 PPG (39.4% FG), which is an improvement from around 9ish PPG earlier in the season.

Salaun has scored 10+ in five straight games, hitting her best scoring window. I expect her to continue her tremendous form.

Salaun O 10.5 Points for -120 at BetMGM

The 3-SGP look low-risk, high-reward types. Howard is inefficient, but she takes so many shots that she can hit the “over” here.

I have been conservative with Burton’s pick, considering her inconsistencies. Meanwhile, Salaun has been perhaps the most consistent scorer for the Valkyries these days.

The Dream has been one of the most formidable teams throughout the season. They have a golden chance of seizing the second spot. However, the Valkyries keep beating the odds.

They have overturned the odds in more than 70% of the games, playing some of the most hard-nosed defense you’ll see. Golden State has had an easy schedule, but its form should be taken seriously nonetheless.

Still, I see the Dream barely covering the spread here and breaking Golden State’s streak in a close match.
