Four teams – Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United, Bayer Leverkusen, and the surprise promotion, Bodo/Glimt – have already qualified after Tuesday night’s Champions League play-off second leg fixtures. The remaining four fixtures on Wednesday will see eight more teams battle it out for the last four places for the Round of 16. All four clashes today carry dramatic narratives.
Real Madrid will welcome Benfica at their fortress, Santiago Bernabeu with a narrow 1-goal lead. PSG will host Ligue 1 rivals Monaco in an all-French battle and they’re also carrying only a 1-goal lead which could be nullified any time. Juventus are in deep waters as they will face Galatasaray at home, but with a 3-goal deficit. Lastly, Dortmund will travel to face Atalanta with a 2-goal cushion.

In this high-stakes second-leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid will host Benfica holding a narrow 1-0 lead from the first fixture. Madrid’s overall figures this season show a potent attack averaging 2.25 goals per game. They’re also holding strong possession and shot creation numbers.
Meanwhile Benfica are sitting idle behind them with 1.85 goals per game. Despite Madrid’s edge, defensive susceptibility is evident. Madrid have conceded in four of their last five home games across all competitions. And Benfica possess enough attacking quality to trouble teams when pushed.
However, Benfica’s away record in Europe has been less convincing. Even so, their need to score in this tie increases the probability both sides find the net. BTTS hit in most of Madrid’s UCL home fixtures this campaign and has a reasonable chance to land again.

Paris Saint-Germain will host Monaco in a tight local derby in the play-offs second leg. PSG are coming into this game with a 1-goal advantage after a 3-2 comeback win in the first leg. Going by past records, PSG generally control this fixture. They have won five of their last seven meetings in all competitions.
They’re also boasting an excellent home record with only one defeat in their last 10 UCL games at home. Conversely, Monaco can score but have struggled to close out games against the French champions. Ligue 1 form corroborates PSG’s superiority at home. They’ve typically dominated possession and created high-value chances in the league.
Injuries to key Monaco assets will further limit their upsidemaking PSG’s favoritism at -375 reflect a legitimate gap in quality and situational advantage. While Monaco did find the net in the first leg, they’ll have to score again at the Parc des Princes — a much sterner defensive scenario. In this context, backing PSG to win aligns with recent form, home strength, and head-to-head trends.

Newcastle are probably the team who are going into the second leg of the playoffs with the most comfortable demeanor. They pulled a huge 1-6 win against Qarabag FK last week, courtesy of a masterclass from Anthony Gordon who scored four, and two from Malick Thiaw and Jacob Murphy. There is a very little to almost no chance of Qarabag getting a win at St. James Park, let alone qualifying for the next round.
Newcastle’s last 10 matches have averaged approximately 2.10 xG per game while conceding 1.25 xGA. Seven of those games finished with at least three total goals. Qarabag FK have shown resilience in European competition. They’ve scored in seven of their last 10 outings. They’re also averaging around 1.60 xG during that stretch.
However, they have also conceded 1.45 xGA on average. Their away fixtures have frequently become stretched contests. Hence, the price for over 2.5 goals seems justified. Newcastle’s home matches in Europe this season have consistently exceeded this threshold. And Qarabag may get a goal or two again, determined to make a mark even if they don’t qualify.
