Carolina Hurricanes Searching for Goalie Options Amid Injuries to Andersen and Kochetkov

With Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov sidelined, the Carolina Hurricanes explore the goalie market to fill the gap and strengthen their roster.

The Carolina Hurricanes are currently looking for additional goalies due to injuries to Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov, putting the team in a vulnerable position.

Kevin Weekes, an NHL insider, stated on Monday that the Hurricanes are currently looking into possible goalie options in the market due to their ongoing goaltending issues.

On Tuesday, Weekes provided a reassuring update on Kochetkov’s situation that could alleviate the Hurricanes’ need to make a trade. Andersen had knee surgery earlier this month and is projected to be out for 8 to 12 weeks.

During Andersen’s absence, Kochetkov, who had been performing well with a 10-2-0 record, a 2.42 goals-against average, and a .904 save percentage, was put in concussion protocol after a collision with teammate Sean Walker, as confirmed by head coach Rod Brind’Amour on Monday.

Spencer Martin and ECHL call-up Yaniv Perets have been assigned the responsibility of guarding the net while they are away.

Martin, who initiated and emerged victorious in the Monday game, maintains an alarming .854 save percentage and a 3.40 goals-against average. Perets still hasn’t played in his first NHL game. Even with some difficulties in goaltending, Carolina has excelled in the first 21 games of the season, achieving a 15-5-1 record, totaling 31 points, and placing second in the Metropolitan Division.

The Canes are scheduled to play against the New York Rangers (12-7-1) on Wednesday, followed by back-to-back games against the reigning champions Florida Panthers on Friday and Saturday.

I’ve always loved writing and storytelling, and hockey gives me a perfect stage for endless stories to tell. Whether it’s breaking down a game, analyzing a big trade, or capturing the emotions on the ice, I bring the NHL to life through words. So what’s the best part you ask? Watching the action unfold and turning it into something fans can connect with. To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
