Caleb Desnoyers NHL Draft Projection – Overview, Strengths, Weaknesses, and Projection for 2025 NHL Entry Draft

Caleb Desnoyers could be selected in the top 5 in this year's draft

The 2025 NHL Entry Draft is now the most exciting event for hockey fans, with the Stanley Cup Final having finished earlier in the month. While some Panthers fans may still be celebrating their second successive Stanley Cup, it is time to look ahead and welcome the next generation of players into the NHL

This year’s draft will see 224 players being selected through the seven-round draft process. Among those is Caleb Desnoyers, one of the top prospects at this year’s draft. Let us dive in and take a look at his game from his strengths to areas of improvement and his draft projection.

Caleb Desnoyers Overview

Canadian ice hockey player Caleb Desnoyers is one of the top prospects in the 2025 NHL Draft class. Desnoyers played two seasons with the Moncton Wildcats, a junior hockey team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

Born on April 11, 2007, in Quebec, Canada, Desnoyers is currently 18 years old, stands at a height of 6 feet 2 inches, and weighs approximately 173 pounds. Desnoyers is a left-handed shooter, playing mainly as the center in the forward position.

Desnoyers hails from a hockey family. His father, David, played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, while his older brother Elliot was drafted in 2020 by the Philadelphia Flyers. In his two seasons with the Wildcats, Caleb has put up an incredible 140 points from just 116 games, including 55 goals.

Caleb Desnoyers Strengths

Overall, Desnoyers is a pretty good skater. He is unable to find separation because of his lack of top-end speed, but otherwise, he has the skill set to maneuver well on the ice. As for shooting the puck, Desnoyers can really rifle one into the back of the net. He generates ample power on his shots, but most of his goals last year did come from near the net, where that power was not on full display.

But for all his goal-scoring prowess, Desnoyers’ best attribute could be his passing. A high hockey IQ player, the Canadian sees the ice well and creates plenty of time and space before passing it off to a teammate for an easy goal. Weaving through players and setting up his teammates is for sure one of the strong points of his game.

Caleb Desnoyers Weaknesses

Lack of speed is an area where he struggles, and that allows defenders to catch him, making it difficult for him to break away for a goal-scoring opportunity. And while he does have a powerful shot, it is his shot selection that is often questionable.

The 18-year-old is also not the most physical player on the ice. Although he does have the drive to compete and work hard for the puck, he does get overpowered at times. In order to succeed at the NHL level, he will need to get stronger. Defensively, Desnoyers has been caught puck-watching on quite a few occasions, and that is yet another area of his game that needs to be rectified.

Caleb Desnoyers Draft Projection

According to many draft projections and mock drafts, Desnoyers is definitely one of the top prospects in the first round of the draft. Several experts have him going inside the top 10, but a larger number of them also see him going in the top 5.

The highest that Desnoyers could possibly be taken is at number 2 overall, but that is still quite unlikely. Even if the Canadian falls outside the top 5, it would be surprising if he is still waiting for his name to be called once the first 10 picks are over.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
