Victor Eklund is one of the top ice hockey players from Sweden, looking to make his name in the NHL as he gets ready for draft night. Eklund plays as a forward, generally on the left wing, and is a right-hand shot.

He has been playing his junior-level and professional-level hockey for Djurgårdens IF since 2021. From 2020 to 2024, he played for Djurgårdens IF in the J18 and J20 leagues, and has also made approximately 70-odd appearances for the professional team in the HockeyAllsvenskan, a professional ice hockey league in Sweden.

The forward who has represented Sweden on the international level as well is considered one of the top draft prospects at the 2025 NHL draft. Having said that, let us get to know a little more about his family, which has seen other members play the game before him.

Victor Eklund’s Parents

Victor Eklund’s parents are Christian and Sarina Eklund. Victor was born on October 3, 2006, in Stockholm, Sweden, and he is the couple’s younger son. Christian and Sarina have an older son named William, who was born on October 12, 2002, in Haninge, Sweden.

Victor Eklund Father

Victor Eklund’s father, Christian Eklund, is a former hockey player himself. He spent the entirety of his career playing hockey in Europe, and in Sweden for the most part. His professional career spanned from 1998 to 2013.

Christian was a left-handed shooter who also played on the left wing. He came through to the professional league after playing three seasons with Djurgårdens IF’s junior hockey team. From 1998 to 2002, he played for various teams in the HockeyAllsvenskan, the second-highest professional league in the country.

From 2002 to 2011, barring one season in 2005-06, he played for Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien league, which is the highest-level professional league in Sweden. In the 2005-06 season, he played for Augsburger Panther in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), Germany’s highest division of ice hockey.

While Victor Eklund’s father is quite famous as a former professional hockey player, there is no available information about his mother. From the social media accounts, the only relevant piece of information that came forth was her name, Sarina.

Sarina Eklund maintains a Facebook account as well, but apart from plenty of photos and videos of the family, there is no relevant information about her.

Victor Eklund’s Brother

Eklund’s older brother, William, also followed in his father’s footsteps and became a professional hockey player. William has also played his junior and professional level hockey with Djurgårdens IF in Sweden.

Currently, he is playing for the San Jose Sharks, the team that drafted him seventh overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. In 174 games to date, William has accumulated 110 points, including 35 goals. Like his father and brother, William is also a forward with a left-handed shot.

Victor Eklund, the No. 2-ranked international skater, and his brother William (No. 7 in 2021) can become the third Swedish brothers ever selected in Round 1 of the #NHLDraft.

The four-year age gap between Victor and his older sibling proved to be a boon for the younger brother. As kids, William would always play tough against his brother, and that has made Victor more tenacious and fearless in his approach towards the game.
