The Australian Grand Prix 2025 comes to an end.
The 2025 Australian Grand Prix will go down as one of the most amazing races of the 2022-2025 ground effects era. It had everything- the drama, the race, the strategy calls, the rookies, the crashes and undoubtedly hardcore racing. There were predictions of rain for Sunday previously, which already complicated the matter. The ground effect cars are known for their inability to race in the rain. And sure enough, the rain gods decided to make an appearance even before the race started.
There were six rookies on the Formula 1 grid before the race started, but only two remained to see the checkered flag. The downpour plucked off the drivers from the grid one by one. It all started with a heartbreak for Isack Hadjar. The race ended with some surprising results and many disappointments. Let’s have a look at the Australian Grand Prix Results.
In a race which was full of surprises, Lando Norris hung on to his pole position and led the race to win the very first race of the 2025 Formula 1 season. Norris now leads the championship ahead of Max Verstappen. He was unable to complete his first Formula 1 grand slam, as he lost the lead to Hamilton and Verstappen for three laps. Norris is a five-time race winner in Formula 1 as of now.
Max Verstappen had a disappointing weekend with his Red Bull. He was trying to gain in on Norris in the final laps but ultimately, the McLaren proved better than his Bull. Verstappen and Norris proved better of their teammates. Lawson was unable to finish the race crashing out during the later stage of the race. On the other hand, Piastri spun out to lose a podium finish and a potential race win. Piastri had to be satisfied with a ninth-place finish.
Oscar Piastri's mistake when the mid-race rain hit took him out of podium contention, eventually finishing P9 😢

George Russell finished third in the race completing a successful weekend for Mercedes with his teammate. The rookie, Antonelli, made a miraculous recovery from qualifying in treacherous conditions to finish fourth in the race. He is the youngest driver on the grid and the third youngest to start a Formula 1 race. He had a 5s penalty for unsafe release which was overturned later on.
Alex Albon finished fifth and mitigated some of the damage caused by Sainz’s crash earlier on in the Grand Prix. Both Williams drivers were keen on claiming points but ultimately, only Albon could deliver. Kick Sauber and Aston Martin were able to stay ahead of the Ferraris. Again, Sauber and Aston Martin lost one of their cars during the race. Alonso ended up in the barriers and Bortoleto spun out leading to his disqualification.

Ferrari had a terrible weekend, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing in 8th and 10th place respectively. They were unable to retain any of speed shown during the free practice. Both Ferraris decide to gamble on slick tyres when rain started falling again, but at the end they had to pit for Intermediates. At one point, Hamilton had the lead of the race but he was not confident enough to continue racing on slicks during the heavy rain.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
