Winner to face Yastremska or Osorio in Round-3.
No. 8 seed Emma Navarro will be up against a raucous Canadian crowd, as she faces local hero Rebecca Marino in the 2025 Canadian Open Round of 64. While it is set to be the first tour-level main draw meeting between the two players, they have previously faced each other in other tournaments. Keep reading to find out the history of this rivalry, as well as the BetMGM betting odds for this highly anticipated National Bank Open 2025 contest in Montreal.
After suffering a loss in her opening match as the No. 2 seed in Washington DC, Emma Navarro will be desperate for a quick turnaround. A semifinalist at the US Open 2024, the American will require quality match practice if she is to repeat the heroics. Her solitary success this season was at the Merida Open Akron – where she won the championship without dropping a set. Apart from this, the 24-year-old has reached six quarterfinals which includes the Australian Open. Navarro enters this match with a ranking of No. 11 in the world, and a win-loss record of 24-18 this year.

Her opponent earned a massive victory over Jacquemot in the opening round. 34-year-old Rebecca Marino is playing her first tour-level main draw since the Singapore Tennis Open in January. Having turned pro in 2008, Marino has reached the Round of 32 at Roland Garros and US Open in the past. In 2025, the Canadian holds a mediocre 13-16 record in all competitions. She is a two-time winner of Tennis Canada’s Female Player of the Year award, and has victories over top former players such as Marion Bartoli.

The head-to-head record between Navarro and Marino stands at 2-0 in favour of the young American. This is set to be their first meeting in 2025.
The two stars have faced one another once each on Canadian and American soil. Interestingly, both encounters were three set thrillers. At the 2022 WTA-125 in Vancouver, Navarro dropped the opening set vs No. 6 seed Marino, before making a roaring comeback. The following year, the pair met in the qualifying event of the Cincinnati Masters. Yet again, No. 9 seed Navarro failed to win the first set but ended up grabbing victory in three sets.

Navarro’s main advantage in this match-up is her superior court coverage. The American has the ability to make her opponents play an extra ball due to her immaculate speed and agility, and she can strike winners even when off-balance. Marino is 34-years-old, and needs time on the ball to work her way into matches. While Navarro will vary the pace with plenty of slices and changes in height, she is likely to wear her opponent down under the sultry conditions in Montreal.
Prediction: Emma Navarro in straight sets.
Navarro is the firm favourite in this Round of 64 bout against Canada’s Marino. She has been favoured to win in straight sets, and is unlikely to face any hiccups en route to success. Here are all the important odds to know about before placing your bets (as per BetMGM):
